I’ve enjoyed reading Permacluture Magazine online recently. We aren’t doing composting on the Lakritz Farm yet although we have used wood chips successfully to keep weeds down to almost nothing.
We have been challenged for nutrients in our soil and I am finding that some of our plants are having deficiencies. So far I have only added store bought manure and such.
I recommend Paul Alfrey’s article on growing your own mulch.
One of my favorite tips from Alfrey’s article is this idea for living mulches. Ground cover plants do the trick.
We are already experimenting with growing different plants together in our beds. But not with any particular idea that they would benefit each other beyond flowers to attract bees and repel insects.
I would love to hear your ideas and experience with building your soil nutrients with compost or mulch from your own farm or garden.
