Why Eat Organic?

When I was young we often went into the fields of the Central Valley in California to pick left over foods the machines didn’t capture during the harvest. We went into tomato fields, fruit orchards, and once even dragged bruised fruits out of garbage bins at a cannery. Most often we would can the fruits and vegetables at the local cannery coop in Armona, CA.

I recall one time when we were out in a tomato field picking leftovers when I broke out in hives all over my body. I have often wondered if that incident was caused by a reaction to the tomato plant or to pesticides in the field.

Today it’s not hard to  analyze the body to see the effects of pesticides and other chemicals used in farming. Check out this short video by the Swedish grocery store Coop. The video, which promotes organic foods, analyzes the amount of pesticides inside the body of all the members of a family before and after two weeks of eating only organic foods.
